The Champs Sports Bowl, played in Orlando, has been the biggest bowl in the ratings so far in the Orlando TV market.
Of course, Florida State’s victory over Notre Dame was another lure. The game drew 167,800 viewers Thursday night on ESPN.
No. 2 in the bowl ratings so far has been the Valero Alamo Bowl, also Thursday on ESPN. Baylor beat Washington, a game that drew nearly 70,000 viewers.
Coming in at No. 3 in the bowl games so far was the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl — windy title – which drew 66,100 viewers Friday on ESPN. Mississippi State beat Wake Forest. (It started outside prime time and doesn’t appear in the Friday rankings.)
The top shows Friday night were the reruns on CBS: “CSI: NY” with 111,500 viewers, “A Gifted Man” with 93,800 and “Blue Bloods” with 90,600.
No. 4 was ABC’s telecast of “The Chronicles of Narnia — The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” with 63,000 viewers. NBC’s “Chuck” entertained 56,100 viewers.
The Orlando Magic’s victory over the Charlotte Bobcats did pretty well. Prelminary ratings show the game on Sun Sports drawing 52,200 viewers.

NBC affiliate WESH-Channel 2 definitively won the 25-to-54 age group at 11 p.m., and by several measurements.
At 11 p.m. Monday-Friday, WESH averaged 25,900 viewers to WKMG’s 22,200 and WFTV’s 20,000. WOFL-Channel 35 averaged 12,200. The 25-to-54 age group is most important to news advertisers.
WESH was also ahead at 11 p.m. Monday-Sunday with 26,200 viewers in the 25-to-54 age group to WKMG’s 22,600 and WFTV’s 19,800.
WESH trumpeted that it was the only 11 p.m. newscast to grow, with a 6 percent ratings increase from November. In a statement, WESH General Manager Jim Carter said: “Our No. 1 11 p.m. news position and ratings growth in December show that Central Florida viewers are responding positively to our commitment to quality news coverage and rely on WESH 2 for breaking news and weather.”
We’ll see if that claim holds up when the next ratings come out in late January. But WESH accomplished its win even though the NBC prime time ranked third in total viewers in this market (behind CBS on WKMG and Fox on WOFL). The ABC lineup on WFTV was No. 4 for the month, which was dominated by reruns and holiday programming.

In households, WFTV continued to hold a substantial lead in many time periods. At 6 p.m., for instance, WFTV was the choice in 113,400 homes, far outpacing WESH with 67,200, WKMG with 34,100 and WOFL with 28,100.

“We’ll never know what happened until the perpetrator states what happened,” Dr. Jan Garavaglia told NBC’s “Today” this morning.
Garavaglia, the chief medical examiner for Orange and Osceola counties, promoted ”Dr. G: Inside the Caylee Anthony Case,” which debuts at 8 p.m. Sunday on TLC. The new season of “Dr. G: Medical Examiner” starts at 10 p.m. Friday on Discovery Fit & Health.
On “Today,” Savannah Guthrie wanted to know if Garavaglia could say that Casey Anthony killed her 2-year-old daughter. “My job is not to determine who did it,” Garavaglia said. “My job is to determine what happened. So I feel very strongly that we could say this was a homicide.”
In July, Casey Anthony was acquitted of murder in the death of her daughter.
Garavaglia repeated that her job was not to point a finger in the case, but she noted that Casey Anthony was the last person with Caylee and was responsible for the child. “We never did get anything from her of what happened, yet we found her with duct tape discarded in the woods,” Garavaglia said. “That tells a lot.”
Garavaglia dismissed complaints that she might be making money off the Anthony special, saying she is donating any money she receives to children’s charities. She said she was doing the special to explain forensics in the case at length and get beyond sound bites.

AMC renews ‘Hell on Wheels’
The epic Western “Hell on Wheels” will get a second season, AMC announced today.
“Wheels” had been overshadowed. The series didn’t garner the acclaim of Showtime’s “Homeland,” which also aired at 10 p.m. Sundays. And “Wheels” didn’t generate the excitement of AMC’s “Walking Dead,” the channel’s most popular series.
