Guy Rawlings leaving WESH for Atlanta; you’ll see more of Pat Clarke

Prepare to say goodbye to Guy Rawlings, the sports anchor at WESH-Channel 2.

He is moving on to WGCL-TV, which bills itself as CBS Atlanta, and where he will be a news anchor, AJC.com reports.

“Guy will be here until a couple days before Christmas,” WESH news director Bob Longo said in an email tonight. “We wish him all the best in his new role in Atlanta.”

Longo said the station has begun a national search for a replacement and hopes to have it wrapped up soon. The station also will draw on longtime broadcaster Pat Clarke.

“We’re fortunate to have someone with Pat’s Central Florida experience, contacts and know-how, and you’ll certainly be seeing more of him in the weeks ahead,” Longo said.

With AJC.com, Rawlings talked about the reasons for his move. “I’m really excited and a little bit anxious,” he said. “I wanted to try something different, look for a new challenge. A lot of my friends who are sports anchors are unemployed. Local sports seems to be shrinking. This opportunity is a hybrid of news and sports. I had to jump on it!”

Rawlings, a University of Florida alum, joined WESH in 2007 and has worked in Miami, Baltimore, Charleston, S.C., Jacksonville and Gainesville.

His WESH bio reads: “In his spare time, Guy enjoys watching football — especially the Gators — basketball and playing tennis.”
