‘Grimm’: How did you like the new NBC series?

A terrible roadblock was put in front of NBC’s “Grimm,” which debuted last night. It had to go against the World Series, which was the night’s ratings blockbuster. “Grimm” brought in 6.5 million viewers while Game 7 was doing three times that audience.

More bad news: “Grimm” has arrived in the same season as ABC’s “Once Upon a Time,” which scored well in its premiere on Sunday.

I much prefer “Once Upon a Time.” ”Grimm” tries to inject new life in the police procedural with fantasy. A police detective learns he is a descendant of the Brothers Grimm, which explains why so many wicked characters are headed his way.

On the plus side, the makeup is impressive, and Kate Burton puts in a creepy guest appearance.

On the down side, the detective is a pretty blah fellow to have descended from the Grimm family. But I’ve only seen the premiere, so we’ll see how “Grimm” plays out.

A warning: Don’t be fooled. The grim, violent situations make this one unsuitable for young children.

The big question hovering over ”Once Upon a Time”: Will viewers return this weekend? You can catch the second episode at 8 p.m. Sunday on ABC.
